With so many different food storage containers out there, finding the perfect ones for your kitchen can be hard. Do you want plastic, which isn’t the most eco-friendly or durable? Or glass containers that are reusable but have a higher chance of shattering? 

In the hunt to find the best food storage containers, we happened across the Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Containers. We loved their pretty Mineral Blue lids, so we grabbed a 10-piece set to test them out. Keep reading for our full review.

Design: Perfect for meal prep and leftovers

The 10-piece set comes with five bowls and corresponding lids: one 1-cup bowl, two 2-cup bowls, one 4-cup bowl, and one 7-cup bowl. The smaller containers are great for meal prepping and packed lunches, while the larger containers make storing leftovers easy.

The bowls are circular, with no special bells or whistles. The lids, however, have a unique design that helps you press the air out and form a tight seal around the glass container. Plus, since the glass containers and top of the lids are both see-through, a quick glance in your fridge or pantry tells you exactly what food you have while you’re meal planning.

Material: Glass and BPA-free plastic

The Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Containers are made out of tempered glass, which makes them extra tough. However, they can still break, so you’ll want to handle them with care. Additionally, the glass doesn’t stain, and it doesn’t absorb odors like plastic containers would.

While it may look like they’re made out of silicone, the lids are actually BPA-free plastic, which create a tight, leak-proof seal that locks in the freshness of your food.

Heating Capacity: Oven safe up to 425 degrees

You can use the Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Containers in the microwave and the oven—though, the plastic lids obviously have to stay out of extreme heat. For use in the oven, the glass containers are safe at temperatures up to 425 degrees.

It’s important to note that sticking a cold glass container into a hot oven could cause it to break from the quick change in temperature. For this reason, it’s best to wait until the container has warmed up at least to room temperature. Still, it’s great to know that you can use one container for everything from meal prep to cooking to reheating. 

While these containers are safe to use in the oven, they definitely weren’t designed with this purpose in mind. There are no handles, which makes it hard to grip the containers with oven mitts, so it’s not quite as perfect as it sounds.

Cleaning: Put that dishwasher to use

We breathed a sigh of relief when we saw that these containers—and their lids—are dishwasher safe. You have to keep the lids on the top rack, though. We stored a variety of things in these containers, from leftover chicken alfredo to baby carrots, and everything came perfectly clean in the dishwasher. 

The only drawback we noticed is that the lids take a long time to dry due to all the crevices in the design. It’s possible to towel dry them, but it’s not an easy task, especially on the smaller lids. We had trouble getting the towel to reach into the small dips in the lid to absorb all the water.

Price: Reasonable

While their MSRP is $39.99, you’ll often find this set of food storage containers available for less—think in the $25 to $35 range. While we wouldn’t call it a screaming deal, we think it’s a fair price for the set, which is made in the USA and comes with a 5-year warranty that covers chips, breaks, and cracks.

Pyrex Simply Store Round Food Container Set: We’ve all heard of Pyrex, and for good reason. Their containers are known for their high-quality material and design, and the Pyrex Simply Store Round Food Container Set lives up to the brand’s stellar reputation. While you only get three bowls (a 2-cup, 4-cup, and 7-cup), the price is half of the Anchor Hocking, coming in at around $20—you could get two sets for virtually the same price and end up with an extra container. Plus, the Pyrex containers are also safe in the microwave, oven, dishwasher, and freezer, and they can be nested for easy, space-saving storage.
