Prep Naturals Glass Meal Prep Containers Review

After a long day of meal prepping, what does your refrigerator look like? Is it full of containers, all stacked on top of each other and threatening to topple over the second you reach inside? Or, if you’re someone who packs lunches, how many baggies and containers do you have to put into your bag just so you can keep your fruit separate from your sandwich?

Thanks to their inner compartments, the Prep Naturals Glass Meal Prep Containers seem like an ideal solution for meal preppers and those who pack lunches, so we wanted to try them out. If you’re looking for a simple solution to your food storage woes, keep reading for our review!

Design: Divided for easy storage

Think of these containers as sealable, microwave-safe lunch boxes. They have a divider in the middle, just slightly to one side, which makes them perfect for storing a sandwich (or, say, a small chicken breast or steak) in the larger end, with fruit or veggies in the smaller side. If you’d like to pre-portion your leftovers for convenient reheating in the microwave, you can do that, too. We did this with shepherd’s pie and mashed potatoes, and then also for chicken alfredo and broccoli.

One small drawback about these containers is that even though the lid seals tightly with snap-on flaps, the two inner compartments aren’t sealed from each other. The divider is shorter than the rest of the container, so if you have liquid in one side, it could easily spill over into the other compartment if the container is tilted.

As for the lids, they have a small vent (with a sealable cover) for cooling hot foods quicker. It’s not meant for heating, as the lids aren’t microwave safe. However, the gasket gives the containers a leakproof seal, so you can keep one in your bag for a worry-free commute.

Material: Glass and BPA-free plastic

Switching to glass containers is a simple and easy way to start being more eco-friendly, and while the lids are still plastic, it’s a small step in the right direction. 

Plus, the glass is actually borosilicate glass, which is some of the strongest glass available, and the plastic lids are BPA-free.

Heating Capacity: Definitely oven safe

Since they’re made from borosilicate, these containers are more heavy duty than normal glass containers, and according to the manufacturer, they can withstand high temperatures of up to 840 degrees. 

Unfortunately, the lids for these containers aren’t freezer safe. If you’re planning on just using these for meal prepping or as a lunchbox, you’ll be fine, but if you want to use them for meal prepping further in advance, these won’t do you much good.

Cleaning: Hand wash the lids

Since the containers are designed to be tough, they can definitely be put in the dishwasher. The lids, however, need to be hand washed. 

We didn’t really have any issues washing them, even when we had to get some grease off, and there were no stains to be found. At the end of testing, they came out perfectly clean.

Price: A great deal

At full price, a five-pack of these containers retails for $39.99, but they’re often available for around $30. Considering how heavy-duty and convenient the containers are, we think $30 is a good deal.

Competition: Lots of options for meal prep

M MCIRCO 2-Compartment Glass Meal Prep Containers: For roughly the same price, you can get five of the M MCIRCO Glass Meal Prep Containers, which are nearly identical to the Prep Naturals ones. However, there are a few key differences that may sway your decision. First, the M MCIRCO lids are freezer-safe, but they don’t have a cooling vent. Further, the M MCIRCO containers are slightly bigger, so you can fit more food into them. They’re definitely worth a quick look, especially if you prefer larger portions.

GlassLock Oven-Safe 18-Piece Container Set: In the same price range, you can get seven different-sized square, circular, and rectangular glass containers with the GlassLock 18-Piece Container Set. These containers are smaller than the Prep Naturals ones but don’t include a built-in divider. Additionally, the containers and lids are both dishwasher safe and can be nested for easier storage, giving them a leg up when it comes to convenience.

Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Containers: The Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Food Storage Containers that we tested are the most expensive option in this lineup, costing around $40 for five bowls and matching lids. (Though, you can sometimes find them on sale for less.) While both the containers and the lids are dishwasher safe, the lids take a long time to dry due to their ridges. The Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Containers do have an impressive airtight seal, though, and they’re the prettiest of the lot with their blue lids.
